There I could be arsed to start the thread, the rest of you get to do the commenting and argumenting for it.

I can see the riveting discussion now:

This week on, "Around the Table", We discuss how you spell "w00t" in Scrabble without zeros, and still spell it correctly. Also, in a special spotlight segment, DJ Rob talks about why Colonel Mustard did it in the Study with the candlestick. Finally in our listener segment, we hear your opinion on whether Monopoly should have one thousand-dollar bills.

This, plus our "Token of the Week"!

MonarQ Humor Quotient of this post: 8.5 out of 10. Superb Job!

Awww man clean the candlestick gents, Col. Mustard did it again geesh... but can you believe Professor Plum commited the murder with the revolver in the study? :-)

It's what I've been thinking about having, to be honest. Which makes MonarQ's joke even better. :P

That's a freaking great idea. I'd love to take that on, but I'm already swamped with ideas and it really deserves a whole 3 hours. Pen and paper gaming, yes. Board games, I'm not so sure.

It would be great, i used to love the old Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay - I also did a bit of Live Action Roleplay and also Cyberpunk...plus those cool books where you had to roll a die and chose a path...you just kept going round in circles!!!

I was planning to chat VERY briefly about this on my show tonight, but I think a whole show would be very cool and nostalgic...and a break from video gaming!

What's the difference between P&P gaming and board games, then? XD

But yeah, I've a few ideas for this kind of show. I'd rather wait until after new year's eve though, given all that's happening over the holidays.

I used to have a tradition with friends that we spent New Years EVE playing Risk and getting bladdered. One year, my friend played "Auld Lang Syne" in the style of Jimi Hendrix at Woodstock on the stroke of midnight. Ah, happy memories.
As for tabletop games, would that include card games such as Magic: The Gathering?

Rob
13th December 2007, 17:33
the idea I have would be to cover RPGs (both P&P and digital), boardgames and card games (not poker though). That would include M:tG as well, yes.

The discussion was more about whether or not to include a show dealing with traditional pen and paper Role Playing Games (D&D, Vampire : The Masquerade, Werewolf etc) than the Monopoly and RISK's of the world.

If we was gonna go with standard board games, we'd have to change the station name to Total Laming Radio.

Rob
13th December 2007, 18:24
STANDARD board games? Hell no. I'm talking about stuff like Arkham Horror, Formula Dé (ok, so nothing happens on that front any longer), Ricochet Robot, Doom, A Game of Thrones, Rheinlander, Civilization, Advanced Squad Leader and the like. Besides, it'd be more in passing than having an entire show dedicated to board games.

And don't you dare call them standard.

MrBlades
13th December 2007, 18:44
Unless it requires creativity and imagination in a story driven "role playing" environment, it's considered standard board gaming as far as I'm concerned.

That means pen, paper, character sheets, dice, cheetos, Mountain Dew and Purpelin, the butt hair dragon*.

* Don't ask.

Butt hair Dragon? WTF?

so

im a tad confused

are you guys talking about talking about new and upcoming PnP books in your shows?

or actually doing PnP RP on air?

*ion is confunzzled*

Your search - Purpelin dragon - did not match any documents.

Hum, maybe if we can't ask we can speculate...

And back on topic:
I haven't ever played any paper and pen games as such.
But I did used to play Warhammer 40k which uses dice and stuff, in fact I probably still have the models around here somewhere.
It would probably be interesting to hear about it in a show.

So Diplomacy is fine, then? Ok, so you don't have character sheets, but it requires creativity. And a fair deal of backstabbing.

What's the problem with mentioning board games anyway?

Diplomacy is the most amazing board game ever. I played everyone so hard. Got them all to trust me by going along with them, played them against each other, and then once everyone's plans were coming near the finales, I turned around and took advantage of them all. Bwahahahahaaa!

lmao! MrBlades you are too funny (I rolled a 19 on my D20 so I saved right? lol)... or are you really mad??? *rolls 13 on my sneak and hide skill* lol

Nice :D I once entered a Diplomacy tournament; managed to get to the finals, and got... beaten. Was at a whole different level from what I was used to. Great fun though.

I've been thinking about running a Diplomacy game on the show actually! Give everyone 5 days (Sunday to Friday or sommat) to have their conversations with their allies/fools, then send their orders in, and everything to be announced on air.

That could work, couldn't it?

lol Monarq...love that jesus line.

I started gaming with ... well, probably video games. But I played DnD when it first came out (yea, im old)...and continued playing RPGs and miniatures thru college.

I took a few year hiatus after college, but I'm kind of back into RPGs. I mostly just collect the books now and read them. Still love them.

Guess a show about them wouldnt be all that bad. I think society is pushing more towards instant gratification and bells and whistles that the computer games provide...but a lot of us gamers still love the pen and paper (and miniatures) games.

I actually thought all this sort of stuff was dead but then i searched and found that gurps was still alive, as is steve jackson games - there are some cool games on his webby. Not to mention Games Workshop which is still going strong!

It's a big industry, and one that people generally don't like to talk about much - it's considered uncool...so why not talk about it? it could be a nice little niche in the market.

This is a public thread and seems to be mutating into a discussion on actually getting this show off the ground, so I started this thread (http://forums.gamingradio.net/showthread.php?p=7225) for GRN staff.

Any listeners have any ideas that they'd like to see on this show? Shminty's right, it's a thriving but niche market, and there's a lot of scope for a great show here.

But I played DnD when it first came out (yea, im old)

Dungeons and Dragons first came out in 1974, so.......

Yea, I dont really admit it publically (cept here) that I ever did it...or even have somewhat of a love for it still.

Heck, I dont even talk about playing MMORPG's publically...like at work...except for here of course.

Society...sigh.

And monarq, for shame.

Me and Caff were going to touch on this, but he didn't take it seriously, and called all table top roleplayers "weird".

Who wants to come to a LARP event and cover that for TGR? HA
