View Full Version : Perpetual War - An Ongoing Eve Radio Event
MrBlades
19th July 2007, 13:49
It's been a while since Eve Radio has put on a big in game event that wasn't a lottery, small scale skirmish against random listeners or an organised suicide march into 0.0 to explode ourselves.
Thats all about to change with "Perpetual War", an in game Concord sanctioned war between two major protagonists, Red Team and Blue Team corps.
The premis is remarkably simple :-
Two teams (Lets call them the good guys and the bad guys) wage open warfare against eachother in a single hi-sec system from now until the end of eternity.
Each Team will have it's corporate headquaters in the same system, different stations and will fly a variety of common craft with the single goal of achieving more death and destruction than it's opponant.
Victories will be achieved through dominance of the battlefield and detailed through obtained killmails and posted on two special killboards (one for each team) which will be tallied and totalled each week.
At the end of each weeks combat, the team with the highest overall score will "win" that particular round and prizes awarded to the most prolific killers in that team.
And that's basicaly it.
Of course, there are some ground rules and limitations that all participants will have to follow. Failure to do so will result in expulsion from the corp and penalties levied against the offending team.
Specifics are as follows :-
Pilot elegibility
We are aiming to make the war as ballanced as possible and friendly to newer players. All characters who wish to join either Red Team or Blue Team will have to have been created no earlier than 20th July 2006. New characters are suggested (I'd suggest rolling and alt and play with that, it's fun) but anyway upto a year old (as detailed above) will be permitted.
Ship elegibility
All Tech 1 ships upto and including tier 2 Battlecruisers are permitted. No Tech 2 ships are permitted with the exception of Tech 2 frigate class vessels. This includes Stealth Bombers, Assault Frigates, Covert Ops etc.
Battleships are NOT permitted at this stage, although as time goes by they will be introduced.
Rules Of Engagement
Combat between Teams is only permitted within a single target system. If combat occures between opposing teams outside of the target system, the offender will suffer a penalty to his teams standings and be removed from his corp.
Meta gaming and underhand tactics (such as infiltration) will not be tollerated. The idea is to have cheap and cheerful fun with the pew pew, not sneaking spies into the opponants team to try and gain an advantage. Don't do it, it's ghey.
Alt use for observation and intel purposes is to be discouraged. I know, almost impossible to prove it's going on and lay blame at a specific persons feet, but it's against the spirit of the event, so do try not to do so.
Other than that, anything goes.
Gank your opponants, pod them back to the stoneage, mock them (but lets keep it friendly) but most of all, good clean pew pew fun.
Both Teams are now accepting members willing to fight and die for the glory of their team.
Red Team, led by the evil and twisted Lord Tempest3k has it's headquaters at the Nugoeihuvi Corporation Development Studio (Lets just say bottom station cos that's a helluva mouthful) in the Keproh system of Kor Azor region.
Blue Team, led by the peace loving and gallant Combat MrBlades can be found at the Nugoeihuvi Corporation Publisher station (Gah, another mouthful. Top station it is) in the Keproh system in Kor Azor region.
As you have probably guessed, all the combat will occure in Keproh.
A Word On Logistics
Neither teams will be providing ISK, ships or modules to start. This is because we are poor and lazy. Bring your own gear to the combat zone to start, although as time goes by and money becomes available, both teams will make available T1 ships and mods. It is suggested that participants use an alt to ferry their gear in or get private contractors to bring their stuff as entry to the system could be dangerous and as soon as you're in Keproh, you're a valid target.
Don't use implants unless you can offord to repalce them easily. People can and will be podded. Frequently.
There are no medical services in Keproh, so pick a system nearby to send your clone to when you burst open.
Finally, Perpetual War has been designed to be quick and fun pew pew without all the hostility and bollocks common in normal warfare. We have no need for fleet commanders or a chain of command. Just grab a couple of collegues, jump into a gang and head out and cause some damage. Nobody will care if you lose your ship or make a mistake that costs you a few kills - it's all about the taking part and having fun, whatever the outcome.
Of course, you'll want to win and utterly dominate your opponants, but let's do that with a sense of humor and total lack of hostility.
Incidently, every once in a while we'll be throwing somthing "unexpected" into the pot, just to make things interesting. You'll notice it when it happens, probably just before you explode and your pod goes smush.
Anyway, that's pretty much it. Applications are now being accepted for Red Team and Blue Team. Pick your sides, move your stuff, prepare yourselves for unrelenting comabt.
War starts in 36 hours.
We'll see you out there.
Rules Update
A number of ER staff have commented that they are unable to create new alts to participate due to already having an ER DJ character created. It has been decided that existing alts, which have no more than 12 million SP's and are OLDER than the above stipulates can be elegible IF the DJ's in question submit images of the alt they wish to uses's character SP's to verify they are not too powerful. Both myself and Tempest will verify their elegibility before allowing them to join either team, just to make sure that nobody thinks we're fixing it.
Just to clarify, if you see a character that is more than 12 months old participating they will be below 12 million SP's AND an ERDJ alt. So feel free to shoot them more.
Killboards are now up at :-

I have a very very recently created alt I can get into erm Red Team I think.
I'll dig him out, remember his name and train him a little just for this. Frigate deaths ftw!!!

Too lazy to edit above. But give this more advertising. Alter the entry message in the ER channel ingame, pimp it on the frontpage here, run around the EVE-O boards even...
MrBlades
19th July 2007, 15:22
Right now neither corps can sustain a huge ammount of people, so we'll start small and expand at a sensible pace. For now, we're just advertising on the GRN forums and occasionally mentioned on air to get a manageable number of people. Later, we'll really push it.

Well, you can camp any of the gates inside Keproh, hitting any opposing team members that come in or out. However, you can't fight outside of the Keproh system as detailed in the original post.

Oh it all trained. Just forgot to update skills. But hey ho, never mind.
Anyway, allowing people with upto 12 months experience to join just makes it a little less even. Wanna see some varity in equipment and skill sets being used and 12 months still makes someone fairly low skilled, sp wise.

It will also be fun to have a PVP toon while I mission-whore on my carebear NPC corp Main.
I take it we can supply our toons in the corp with assets from our mains and so on?

Aaaah, the almighty Rifter!!
Good idea. I trained a Caldari Achura but I'm training for Gallente ships. I might just go for an Incursus O' Doom then go towards a Vexor.

Worst thing about skilling a complete noob is all the dozens of pissy little skills you need to just do really basic stuff your mains take for granted. Then theres the challenge of picking the right skills to learn quickly so you can fit your piss poor ships to be at least marginally effective as quickly as possible.
At any rate, gonna be fun flying as a paraplegic for a few days before we all start getting into bigger ships.

Now you are making me make a decision.
I don't want to stop training skills on my main to train an alt.
So do I either play with a very noob alt,
which would probably be just as good as if I skilled it as I have no pvp experience - well unless you count dieing as experience.
Or do I get another EVE account:
This cost money but was considering doing it anyway so I can run the ER Mirror on it and still play on my main.
Or I could stop training my main for a couple of months as it probably won't make that much diff anyway!
As I say you are forcing me to make a decision GRR!!
Also (again trying to avoid making a decision) are the teams reasonably balance numbers wise or should I just one to make the numbers up?

It rolls forward. If you character was created before July 20th 2006, you are ineligible to participate as per the original post. The only exceptions are for ER DJ's and GRN staff who can prove they dont have more than 12m sp by having it verified by both team captains.

Im pretty sure red team got the most kill mails for today. Red team glory!
I think Red Team are ahead on kills at the moment. Mostly due to having a numerical advantage and vastly superior firepower (I don't think anybody expected to see a drone spewing Mrym so soon after the war started), although our initial charge did score us first blood (Rah!).
The lag in that last engagement was horrendous. I was sure Tempest exploded - but apparantly warped out despite the fact I had my scrambler running. I got well n truely raped by 5 Reds (Being called primary 4tl) and went from two thirds shield to a pod after a 1frame per minute slide show.
Oddly, lag stopped the second I exploded so I was able to get my pod out in time.
Who said they podded me?
Anyway, I shant comment on the naughtiness that occured earlier in the evening only because I saw what was about to happen and got everybody ready to bug out and we didnt suffer any casualties.
I will however, reiterate that taking advantage of non alligned characters to gain an advantage is against the spirit of the event, so don't bloody do it.
Right, time to log in and avenge my poor destroyer.
Im down to 89 ships now. :(

MrBlades
21st July 2007, 13:50
Faction ships are T1, so allowed.
Allowing players to field ships upto BC range allows for some variety. It works both ways, so perfectly fair. A Mrym is the biggest, baddest threat allowable in the event so we already seen the toughest opponant out there.
That said, if the lag continues to be a major problem we may have to rethink using drone boats as it just adds to the problem. We'll see how it goes over the next few days.
Mangala Solaris
21st July 2007, 15:02
Aye the lag in that encounter was shocking to say the least (I havent pvpd before being a mission-whore and havent really come across lag like that as yet), made zooming along in my slasher (god is that fast!) seem less fast and more like a slide show....

24 hours of fighting have come and gone and we're sitting at around the 80 kills mark for both teams.
Theres been anguish, smack, pew pew, more smack, lag, smack, lots of aimless camping, smack, some more pew pew and then a little smack.
All in all, good stuff. Keproh is a brigh red boil on the face of the map thanks to all the sensless killing. Long may it continue.
The two sides were pretty unballanced to start, but as of now things are much more level and we're all getting into the swing of things.
Theres roughly 70 people involved at this early stage with the only limiting factor being the majority of people are stuck in lowly frigates. Over the next few days, some of these will begin to graduate into cruisers - and that's when it'll start to get really interesting.

Hi, I just want to clarify something with regards to this before it comes up. Is it alright to use an alt to mine in this area? The only reason I would do so is the convenience of being able to pop the rats with my corp'd character.
Essentially it would be my PVP character scouting for my alt. Not the other way around.

Can I remind everyone taking part to ensure they post both KILLS & LOSSES since the start of the war onto their teams killboard asap please?!?!?
Mangala Solaris
23rd July 2007, 10:59
Quick question - can we post mails - losses & kills - from ingame or do we need to tab out and do them only?
Also, from my perusal of the boards, it doesnt seem that everyone on both sides are uploading kills, let alone losses (I havent played much this weekend, but have uploaded Bahrams loss and so on).
There has to be an incentive or punishments for those who dont, otherwise the information will not be as complete as it can be for either scum or Red teams KB's.
(By the way this is the first killboard I have ever used - Bahrams my first player corp housed toon - and I am exploring it a little more everyday - its awesome)

yes, you can post mails ingame - ensure you use the URL's exactly as typed here:
http://bluekills.eve-radio.com/
http://redkills.eve-radio.com/
if you miss the end / - it sometimes refuses to load, that issue is being investigated.
Incidently, failure to post kills and losses will result longterm in people being removed from teams so please get mails posted asap.
MrBlades
24th July 2007, 02:29
Gonna say this one time since I'm nice.
We will not tollerate the sort of abuse and shit I've wittnessed tonight by a small minority on both teams. If you can't be civil, please sod off and take you're attitude somwhere else.
The whole point of this war is that we can enjoy the ups and the downs but keeping it friendly. Some people out there are taking this way too seriously and it's descending into your average immature smack fest. Take the hissy fitting elsewhere or we'll remove you.
Here's an idea. If you're angry, frustrated or whatever, keep it to yourself. We don't want to see you throwing your toys out of the pram in local. If you act like a twat, all you are doing is making yourself and your team look like tools. And neither CEO wants tools in their corps.
Feel free to resign immediately if you don't like being told to grow up.
On another note, we now have a facility in place to acurately audit all kills and losses that are posted on the killboards. If you don't post a loss or a kill, we will know about it. Every monday both boards will be audited and compared with our records. If they don't match up, the teams responsible will be penalised for each missing kill/loss not posted, as detailed below.
Noobship / 5 pts
Shuttle / 5 pts
Frigate / 50 pts
Industrial / 20 pts
Destroyer / 60 pts
Cruiser / 100 pts
Capsule / 5 pts
Interceptor / 60 pts
Assault Frigate / 80 pts
Covert Ops / 80 pts
Battlecruiser / 250 pts
Once tallied, these points will be removed from the weeks totals and the corp with the most kill points will be declared the winner of that round.
Since we started early saturday am, we will combine the kills/losses total for the weekend into this current weeks score. Under normal circumstances, points are totalled from 12:00am Monday through to 11.59pm sunday. All times are gmt.
It is now in everybodys best interests to post all their kills/losses immediately. If certain individuals fail to comply frequently, they will be named and shamed (on Eve Radio no less) and kicked from the corp for being slack. DONT LET THIS HAPPEN TO YOU!
